What makes DeVry's degree programs so unique?

DeVry offers career-oriented education. What does that mean? It means that DeVry's programs are designed and updated regularly with input from industry leaders. The programs combine current theory and practical knowledge in a ‘learn-by-doing' environment so graduates are ready to make a contribution in the workforce from their first day on the job. Many classes involve working in labs to get the hands-on experience needed to fully understand the concepts being taught.

Additionally, classes at DeVry are small so students receive individual attention from our faculty who really take care to make sure students stay the course to graduation. How does DeVry approach the interview process?

DeVry uses the interview to determine the student's best choice of degree program, motivation for attending college (parents, peers, career) and if there are any roadblocks to attending and graduating (such as finances, past school history). To help arrive at those answers DeVry asks the student questions about:

  • Career interests including what interests the student most and why.

  • Employment including where the student works currently and he or she plans to work while attending school.

  • Previous education including high school graduation info, highest level of math completed, ACT/SAT scores if taken, classes the student likes most and least, types of classes he or she have taken and extracurricular activities involvement.

  • Education goals such as what motivated the student's interest in DeVry, who will help he or she make their college decision, what degree program desired and why, what he or she is looking for in a college, what are the student's long-term goals, will he or she need housing assistance and is there anyone in the student's life who may prevent them from going to college.

  • Financing information including if the student has any financial plans in place to pay for college, have he or she applied for any scholarships or grants, does the student's company offer tuition reimbursement, has the student ever applied for or considered applying for federal financial aid, and does the student have any other resources available to help with educational expenses.

DeVry isn't for everyone. The interview will help the student and DeVry determine if there's a good fit.
