Scholarships help make college more affordable.

DeVry’s scholarships program makes college accessible for hardworking, talented students who may not have the financial means to pay for it all themselves. We have more than 7,500 scholarships to award annually, totaling $25 million. Below is a list of scholarships available at DeVry.

DeVry University 2008-2009 National Scholarships Overview

In the US and Canada, DeVry offers scholarships to new students who meet specified criteria. For scholarship consideration, students are encouraged to apply for admission as soon as possible.

Requirements for all scholarships

     a) Student has applied for admission to a full-time degree program at DeVry
     b) Application fee must be paid at time of application
     c) Student has met DeVry entrance requirements (LOQ – Level of           Qualification)
          i. Dean's Scholarship: Placed standard
          ii. All other Scholarships: Placed standard or developmental
     d) Student is a US or Canadian citizen or a permanent resident
          i. Must attend Campus/Center in respective residential country
     e) Student must begin DeVry within one calendar year of graduating from           high school, or earning a state-issued GED certificate, depending on           scholarship type
          i. Example: All June 08 graduates must begin classes by 2009 spring              term
     f) Scholarship recipients are responsible for all other educational expenses

Presidential Scholarship

     a) Amount: Half tuition – valued up to $32,550
     b) Number Available: 2 per campus and 2 per DVO: (23 campuses, 1 DVO –           totaling 48 scholarships)
     c) Audience: 2009 High School Graduates
     d) Eligibility:
          a. Must be recognized as a Dean's Scholarship winner by March 9, 2009
          b. Minimum of 3.33 CGPA
          c. Minimum of top 50% of class.
          d. ACT – Composite score of 24 or higher – OR
          e. SAT – Combined math and critical reading score of 1100 or higher –               OR
          f.  Canada – Composite CPT or 430 or higher – Canada only
          g. Placed standard (LOQ entered in OSS)
          h. Selected by local campus committee on:
               i. Essay
               ii. GPA
               iii. Teacher recommendation
     e) Deadline: March 9, 2009
     f)  Decisions: Rendered no later than March 20, 2009
     g) Scholarship Verification:
          a. Winners are chosen by local campus/DVO committee
     h) Offered: United States and Canada, on campus or online
     i)  Continued Eligibility: Must maintain a 3.0 CGPA, and a minimum of 12           credit hours per semester.

Dean's Scholarship

     a) Amount: $1,500 per semester – Valued up to $13,500
     b) Number Available: Unlimited, until scholarship dollars are depleted
     c) Audience: High School graduates or GED recipients
     d) Eligibility (Must have):
          a. ACT – Composite score of 24 or higher – OR
          b. SAT – Combined math and critical reading score of 1100 or higher –                OR
          c. Canada – Composite CPT of 430 or higher – Canada only
     e) Deadline: Has one year from high school graduation to apply and start           DeVry
     f)  Scholarship Verification:
          a. Unofficial Transcripts
          b. Copy of ACT/SAT scores, or unofficial transcript showing ACT/SAT                scores. (No handwritten scores on transcripts will be accepted)
     g) Offered: United States and Canada, onsite or online. (including DVUCs)
     h) Continued Eligibility: Must maintain a 3.0 CGPA, and a minimum of 12           credit hours per semester.

DeVry High School Scholarship

     a) Amount: $1,000 per semester – Valued up to $9,000
     b) Number Available: 5 per accredited high school in the US and Alberta,           Canada.
               i. Not to exceed at total of 150 per Metro
     c) Audience: 2009 high school graduates.
     d) Eligibility:
          a. Nominated by high school guidance counselor or principal
          b. Must be in top 50% of class – OR
          c. Combined CGPA of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale at the end of the junior year.
               i. CGPA is determined on a 4.0 scale. CGPA conversion must be                   determined and supplied by the high school if the CGPA is                   calculated using any other scale besides 4.0.
     e) Deadline: Nominations must be received by September 1, 2009
     f)  Scholarship Verification:
          a. Unofficial Transcripts
          b. Community Scholar Award Nomination Form
               i. Nomination Form completed by high school ONLY

Cisco/CompTIA Scholarship (HS)

     a) Amount: $1,200 per semester – Valued up to $10,800
     b) Number Available: Unlimited, until scholarship dollars are depleted
     c) Audience: 2008/09 high school graduates and GED recipients
     d) Eligibility:
          a. Successfully completed IT Essentials I or CCNA Semester I prior to                entering DeVry University, or have received a Certificate of                Completion from Cisco or CompTIA stating successful completion.                OR
               i.    CCNET Certification OR
               ii.   CCDA Certification OR
               iii.  CCNP Certification OR
               iv.   CCDP Certification OR
               v.    CCIE Certification OR
               vi.   CompTIA A+ Certification
          b. High School graduates must be accepted into and begin studies in                one of the following technology degree programs (program availability                varies by location):
               i.    Biomedical Engineering Technology (Biomedical Technology in                       NY)
               ii.   Computer Engineering Technology
               iii.  Computer Information Systems
               iv.   Electronics and Computer Technology

Banco Popular Scholarship (HS)

     a) Amount: $1,000 per semester – Valued up to $9,000
     b) Number Available: 48 per approved market
     c) Audience: 2009 high school graduates
     d) Eligibility:
          a. Must be from one of the approved markets listed below:
               i.    Chicago, IL
               ii.   Irving, TX
               iii.  North Brunswick, NJ
               iv.   Long Island City, NY
               v.    Miramar, FL
          b. Hold an account with Banco Popular and provide proof of existing               account.
          c. Minimum CGPA of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale at the end of the junior year.
          d. Provide letter of recommendation from a member of the community               outlining demonstrated community service, volunteerism, and               leadership skills.
     e) Deadline: Scholarship applications must be received by March 29, 2009.
     f)  Scholarship Verification:
          a. Unofficial Transcripts

          c. Letter of recommendation from member of the community (not related               to the applicant) outlining demonstrated community service,               volunteerism, and leadership skills.

Banco Popular Scholarship (Adult)

     a) Amount: $1,000 per semester – Valued up to $9,000
     b) Number Available: 30 per approved market
     c) Audience: Adults
     d) Eligibility:
          a. Must live in:
               i.    Illinois
               ii.   Texas
               iii.  New Jersey
               iv.   New York
               v.    Florida
          b. Must be at least 19 years of age as of December 31, 2008.
          c. Hold an account with Banco Popular and provide proof of existing               account.
          d. Must meet DeVry University entrance requirements
          e. Must show exceptional need – Student must fall within the FAFSA               expected family contribution (EFC) range of $0 to $5,000 in order to               qualify initially. Student does not need to meet this criterion for               continued eligibility.
     e) Deadline: Scholarship applications must be received by March 29, 2009.
     f)  Scholarship Verification:
          a. Proof of Banco Popular account
     g) Offered: Must attend the Chicago IL, Irving TX, North Brunswick NJ, Long           Island City NY, or Miramar FL campus in their state of residency.
     h) Continued Eligibility: Must maintain a 2.0 CGPA, and a minimum of 6           credit hours per semester for half the award amount or 12 credit hours           per semester for the full award amount.

FIRST Scholar ½ Tuition Scholarship

High school graduates who have participated on a team in any of the 2008-09 FTC or FRC FIRST Robotics competitions and are interested in pursuing a bachelor's degree at DeVry University can get help paying for their higher education through the FIRST Robotics Scholarship programs.

  • Open to all 2009 high school graduates who meet the following criteria:
    • Registered participant on an FRC or FTC team during the 2008-09 school year.
    • Have an ACT composite score of at least 24 or SAT combined math and critical reading score of at least 1100 For Canadian applicants – CPT of 430 or higher, placing the student standard
    • Submit a 500-750 word essay articulating how the FIRST Robotics competition experience relates to their educational aspirations.
    • Submit a letter of recommendation from FIRST Robotics team mentor.
    • Accepted into a full- time degree program at any DeVry University campus in the US or Canada (including DeVry College of New York or DeVry Institute of Technology-Calgary)
    • Must begin classes at DeVry University within one year of high school graduation
  • Deadline: May 1, 2009
  • Award amount: ½ tuition
  • Number available: 4 valued at ½ tuition

    • Winners of the ½ tuition scholarship will be determined through close review by a DeVry University committee and notified once entrance requirements have been met.

FIRST Robotics Scholarship

High school graduates who have participated on a team in any of the 2008-09 FTC or FRC FIRST Robotics competitions and are interested in pursuing a bachelor's degree at DeVry University can get help paying for their higher education through the FIRST Robotics Scholarship programs.

  • Open to all 2009 high school graduates who meet the following criteria:
    • Registered participant on an FRC or FTC team during the 2008-09 school year.
    • Have an ACT composite score of at least 19 or SAT combined math and critical reading score of at least 900 For Canadian applicants – CPT of 430 or higher, placing the student standard
    • Submit a 500-750 word essay articulating how the FIRST Robotics competition experience relates to their educational aspirations.
    • Submit a letter of recommendation from FIRST Robotics team mentor.
    • Accepted into a full- time degree program at any DeVry University campus in the US or Canada (including DeVry College of New York or DeVry Institute of Technology-Calgary)
    • Must begin classes at DeVry University within one year of high school graduation
  • Deadline: May 1, 2009
  • Award amount: $1500 per semester

Employment Gap Scholarship

With thousands of Americans losing their jobs during the past year, and with thousands more expected by the end of 2009, DeVry University and Keller Graduate School of Management is awarding the Employment Gap Scholarship to displaced workers to help them obtain the education they need to hone their current skills to be competitive for the jobs that are available or retrain for a new career.

  • Open to all new undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in any bachelor's or master's degree program who meet the following criteria:
    • Displaced from their job within the last 12 months and demonstrate the greatest financial need
    • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and any other required financial aid forms
    • Attend at least two classes (9 credit hours) per session
  • Deadline: August 3, 2009; and September 28, 2009
  • Award amount: up to $1,000 per semester
  • Number available: 2 per DeVry location and 10 scholarships for online students for each remaining session in 2009
  • Verification: Proof of unemployment via official documentation showing an unemployment claim in the last 12 months
  • Continued eligibility: Must maintain at least 2 classes or 9 credit hours per session and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0
  • Other information:
    • The scholarship will be awarded after all federal, state and other financial aid have been determined.
    • Students eligible for the alumni, military rates, or other special pricing, such as the Keller Center for Corporate Education program, are not eligible for this scholarship.

Transfer Scholarship

     a) Amount: $1,000 per semester – Valued up to $6,000

     c) Audience: All accredited (National or Regional) two-year colleges
     d) Eligibility:
          a. Earned an associate degree from a nationally or regionally accredited               two-year college with a final CGPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale.
     e) Deadline: Has one year from the official college graduation date to apply           and start with DeVry University.
     f)  Scholarship Verification:

Educator Fellowship

     a) Amount: Awarded students are charged at 60% of the prevailing tuition           rate
     b) Number Available: Unlimited, or until fellowship dollars are depleted
     c) Audience: Full-time Administrators, Faculty, and Administrative Staff at           eligible institutions
     d) Eligibility:
          a. Full-time administrators, faculty and administrative staff employed at               eligible institutions: elementary, middle, junior or high school;               nationally or regionally accredited college or university.
     e) Deadline: Must apply for the fellowship prior to starting classes and begin           classes prior to August 2009.
     f)  Fellowship Verification:
          a. Fellowship Employment Verification Form filled out completely and               signed by the candidate's employer at an eligible institution.
     g) Offered: United States and Canada, onsite or online
     h) Continued Eligibility: Must provide employment verification form to the           Campus Registrar, Center Dean, or in the case of an online student           to registrarrequests@devry.edu prior to each semester.
     i)  Other:
          a. Must proceed through the traditional application for admissions               process and meet admissions requirements
          b. May enroll in undergraduate or graduate coursework for which they are               eligible, full or part-time, matriculating or non-matriculating
          c. May attend onsite or online
          d. Continuing students may apply if they become eligible. However,               current students who have not applied for the fellowship prior to               beginning courses can only be awarded going forward (applied to               student's financial aid package during the next session), and will not               be retro-activated for any reason.

AMVETS Scholarship

     a) Amount: $1,000 per semester per award – Valued at up to $9,000 per           award
     b) Number Available: Ten (10) per semester / Thirty (30) total per year
     c) Audience: Veterans, their immediate family members of the Army, Navy,           Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, their respective reserve           components, the Air National Guard and the Army National Guard.
     d) Eligibility: Student must meet criteria established by both AMVETS and           DeVry:
          a. AMVETS CRITERIA
               i.    Will accept all scholarship applications. Will review all applications                      and will provide a list of candidates to DeVry. Candidates need to                      meet the following criteria in order to be considered for a                      scholarship:
                    1. Demonstrate financial need to continue their education and are                         not receiving 100% tuition reimbursement.
                    2. Are not employees or family members of AMVETS National                         Headquarters or DeVry University.
                    3. Submit a complete, signed application, together with all                         supporting documentation, if any, by the deadline dates. The                         application form does not create an obligation to award a                         scholarship to applicant.
                    4. Submit a complete and comprehensive essay on one of the                         following topics:
                         a. What A Higher Education Means to Me.
                         b. My Long Term Career Goal Is…
                         c. America Needs to Support Veterans and the Active Duty                              Because…
                    5. Essay must be a minimum of two full pages not to exceed a                         maximum of four pages. Essays not meeting the minimum or                         exceeding the maximum page numbers will not be considered.
                         a. Must be double spaced
                         b. Must be 12 point font
                         c. Must be on 8”x11” paper
                         d. Must be paper-clipped together – please no staples
                    6. Required Application Supplemental/Check List:
                         a. The AMVETS/DeVry University Scholarship Form (complete                              and signed).
                         b. Essay
                         c. Copy of Veteran's DD214
                         d. A complete and signed copy of applicants or                              parent(s)/Guardian(s) 1040 tax form (for most recent year).                              Form will be used to verify financial need.
                         e. Resume
                         f.  Letter of recommendation
                    7. AMVETS will provide a list of fifteen (15) ranked applicants to                         DeVry University. Of the fifteen (15) submitted, ten (10) will be                         selected and those remaining that meet the DeVry University                         requirements will receive awards the following semester. The                         selection of applicants will be made without regard to race, creed,                         gender, color, national origin, sexual orientaion, condition or                         disability or any other unlawful consideration.
          b. DEVRY CRITERIA
               i.    Has been selected by AMVETS and appears on AMVETS                      Scholarship candidate list.
               ii.   Student is a United States citizen or a legal resident
               iii.  Student has applied for admission to an undergraduate or                      graduate degree program at DeVry/Keller in the United States
               iv.   Application fee and tuition deposit must be paid at time of                      application (This is required for all undergraduate applicants only).
               v.    Meet DeVry University current admissions requirements and be                      accepted into their degree program.
               vi.   Be awarded the scholarship prior to starting classes at DeVry.
     e) Notification of Acceptance of Award: Recipients of the awards must notify           DeVry University and AMVETS of their decision to accept or reject the           award within thirty (30) days of being notified that they have been           selected.
     f)  Deadline: Must begin classes at DeVry or Keller within two semesters of           being awarded the scholarship.
     g) Verification:
          a. eScholarship Application
     h) Locations: Within the United States, onsite or online classes
     i)  Continued Eligibility:
          a. Must maintain a 2.0 CGPA and continuous enrollment
          b. Full-time (minimum of 12 credits) receives 100% of award per               semester. Half-time (minimum of 6 credits) receives 50% of award per               semester. Anything less than half-time will result in loss of               scholarship.
     j) Other:
          a. Student who has applied for admission but has not submitted                paperwork to AMVETS:

Veteran's Appreciation Grant

     a) Amount: This grant is an award of $500 per semester for a full time           student for up to nine semesters or a total of $4500. Part time students           will receive a prorated grant, but must carry at least 6 credit hours per           semester. Example: 6 hrs = $250.00, 9 hrs = $375.00 per semester. This           grant applies toward tuition costs only, and recipients are responsible for           all remaining costs.
     b) Number Available: unlimited
     c) Audience: Veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces (Army, Navy Air Force,           Marine Corps, Coast Guard, their respective reserve forces, Army           National Guard, and Air National Guard), new and continuing Veteran           students are eligible for this grant. Current member of the U.S. Armed           Forces (those serving on active duty, guard, reserve, and their           spouses) who qualify for the military tuition rate are not eligible for this           grant.
     d) Eligibility: This grant is targeted toward students enrolled full-time, but           may be awarded to students attending part-time if they are enrolled for           at least 6 semester credit hours.
     e) Deadline – N/A
     f)  Verification: Student must provide a DD 214, Certificate of Release or           Discharge from Active Duty, or an NGB 22, National Guard Report of           Separation or Record of Service. The discharge characterization or           disposition must not be a Dishonorable discharge. Student Finance will           award the grant to the student after review of provided documentation.
     g) Offered: The grant applies to Veteran students attending any location or           online.
     h) Continued Eligibility: Enrollment for a minimum of 6 credit hours per           semester and a minimum CGPA of 2.0 are required for continued           eligibility.
     i)  Other:
          a. This grant is available to all Veterans who provide the specified                documentation.
          b. If the student withdraws from the institution and has to reapply for                admission, the student will be required to resubmit the military                service documentation needed to reinstate this grant. In this case,                prior semester usage of this grant will be deducted from the total grant                amount.
          c. Students who qualify for employee tuition benefits, current military rate,                AMVETS scholarship, or any other DeVry grant or scholarship are not                eligible for this grant.
          d. This grant may be used in conjunction with the G.I. Bill or any state                veteran's programs, provided the funding source is outside of DeVry,                Inc.
          e. Students receiving Vocational Rehabilitation funding from the Veterans'                Administration are not eligible for this grant.
