Why DeVry?
If I was advising someone on how to choose a college, I would tell them to first pick what they want to do and what kind of degree they want. Then look at the schools, consider the atmosphere of each and the programs offered. That’s the key. And they should also make sure there’s plenty of jobs around campus, too, because you may need a job on top of financial aid.

I knew I wanted to go into accounting because at one time my mom was taking classes for bookkeeping and accounting and I helped her with her homework. I kind of got hooked on it. So I started looking for a school that would put me into that field.

When I was figuring out where to study after high school, DeVry made me feel as if they had picked me out. They came to my house and sat with my parents and me. No other school made me feel that way and I was accepted at a few other schools.

Small classes where everyone’s part of a team.
The smaller classes at DeVry are great. Everyone in them is part of a team and it’s almost like learning while you’re with friends in your living room. I took some very large classes in high school and they were okay but you didn’t get any help whatsoever. I didn’t care for that.

Financial aid advisors who gave me options.
I work in the school’s Academic Support Center as a tutor, which helps me out financially. But I’m also taking advantage of some financial aid programs. The DeVry financial aid advisors helped me out on that process. I would walk into the financial aid office, and I would be stressing out. But they always had options and ideas for me to pursue. If you do your part, they are a tremendous help with the whole financial aid process.

A fun place to be.
With school and work, I don’t have a lot of time to go out, but Seattle is a really fun place with the food market, baseball games and harbor ferries. I’m from Wyoming, and more of a small town girl. I like to shoot pool, work out and occasionally get involved in some water sports.

Lots of friends and a laidback vibe.
Once you start networking at DeVry it’s really great and you can make a lot of friends. The school curriculum is strong but not so much that it totally weighs you down. It’s a pretty laid back atmosphere.

Paving the way to a successful career.
After graduation I hope to be settled into my own apartment and working for an accounting firm doing accounts receivables. I really want to be able to help businesses better understand their financial picture. I think I can be really valuable to a business that way.

The best part: important skills to last a lifetime.
The most important thing I will take away from DeVry after graduation is learning how to plan, organize and analyze. These skills are not only useful in business but they are also really important skills on a personal level.
